MY INVOLVEMENT ON THE PROJECT
Level Designer / World Builder & Narrative Designer


• Taking part in game pitch meetings to improve on the new creative vision of the project.
• Creating Game Design puzzles & features and document them as Creative Brief, Feature lists, Mock-ups to communicate with the team members.
• Taking part in the Narrative Design process to setup the World & Characters Building in the purpose of designing the world story and scenario.
• Level Designing maps and existing player paths with Paper Maps Layouts & Blockouts in the engine.
FROM A SCHOOL PROJECT TO A SHIPPABLE STATE
The challenges working as an independant.

AVIAN initially was a school project developed in 10 months by 15-20 students and former colleagues from IIM Digital School Paris. While finishing school and releasing a first vertical slice in the same time in early 2022 for university graduation purpose (Vertical Slice shown on itch.io and which I did not take part of because at that time I was working on EQUINOXE and LUMO:TLW) some students from the original dev team had the ambition of creating a Game Development Studio to ship Avian professionally: Royale Monkey.
As we found a publisher, I joined the independant project in April 2022 as a co-founder and as a Narrative / World Level Designer among 9 others developers. 


The goal was to release an alternative version of what Avian was at the time. We wanted to keep the philosophy of Avian but start from the beginning all over. So we were focusing on bringing a new experience of Avian with a new story, new world, new gameplay and features, new artistic direction. Bring improvement on the musical aspect and find the meaning and the goal of playing a musical instrument and how we would achieve that. As we found a potential partnership with a publisher the project was about to start in September 2022. But nothing goes as planned. At that time I was working as a Game Designer developing new gameplay mechanics musical features and worked on the World Building to start a first script of the story. As we were evolving during the Conception stage, we were doing a lot of meetings to bring out the creative vision of the project. As the publisher moved away, we were focusing on bringing new investors in the project participating to severals competitions and events around the world (France / Germany / Brazil) to present our new vertical slice.

On the side, I needed to do an internship to validate my Master 2 degree for IIM. So in early 2023 I moved to Midgar Studio as a Full-time Level Designer but still working on Avian part-time.



Without any improvement in finding new financial partnership, the project ended during summer 2023 and the studio closed on December 2023.
